Window’s Speech Recognition (WSR) is a good software for speech recognition, especially because it is specifically designed to work with Windows, and works best in its newest update with Windows 10. Most people reviewed it as good, not great, but also claimed that it is at par with Google Docs Voice Typing (GDVT) and is a Windows version of the same level.

The advantages specific to WSR are that it has computer automation and related features, because it is especially integrated into and designed for the Windows operating system, it has complete control over the computer and its features, like sleep or shutdown options, etc. In addition, it gives the user text editing options, whereby any mistakes can be there and then corrected.

Though, some downsides include the fact that it is not the most accurate voice recognition software available in the market, as its accuracy is on the weaker side, and it cannot be freely used with other operating systems is need be for a change.

Its unique selling point would be the fact that it can control the whole computer through the software options, and can edit as you go. It is also free of cost, without additional charges, and works fine with Windows 10.

7) Temi

Temi is a tool used for speech to text transcription, and is a highly advanced version of speech recognition software. It works when you upload any kind of file, be it audio or video, and it transcribes it in under five minutes. Eventually, the files can be stored in MS Word or PDF formats that especially belong to Windows, and can even be emailed.

This transcription tool gives ease of use to its users, who are effortlessly able to adjust the sound, speed of playback, skip any part if need be, and add timestamps too.

However, the quality of the transcription depends on the sound quality of the uploaded file, and the better the sound quality, the more accurate the results. Additionally, if files are too large, it may take a lot of time to transcribe, and crosses the five minute set benchmark. It also has a little difficulty understanding multiple different accents.

A unique point of Temi is that it has been built by speech recognition experts who are also masters of machine learning. There is a little cost attached if there is need of the whole software, though, multiple shorter trial versions are available for free. Journalists, bloggers and podcasters or authors can best use this tool for their field of work.

This Microsoft API is used for transcription purposes of the speech into text of any kind of audio streams that are fed to it. What this application does it, that it either displays whatever the transcribed text is, or it can follow and act upon the command given in the speech. There are two important features to it: the REST APIs, where developers can use calls, HTTP format and use the service. Or else, there are Client Libraries also available for downloading, that belong to various platforms such as Windows, iOS, Android, etc. for any kind of integration.

It has great accuracy, is highly easy to use, and not very expensive, with a free trial version also available to check it before making a minimal purchase. One of its major advantages is that it supports multiple languages, for example, about 5 languages in conversation mode and 15 languages when it comes into dictation mode, so multilingual transcription is also possible.

Though, it gives the most accurate results when used in a continuous and real-time form, and may be slower in transcribing than other software.

First, check your current user settings if the feature is disabled, then you must need to enable the feature.

Here’s how to text to speech discord on the desktop app:

You must have to enable the discord text to speech feature before using it, and for that, you need to do two things

Open Discord on your PC or MAC, and then hit the gear icon at the bottom-left, adjacent to your username.

Your settings will get open. Click “Notifications” at the sidebar on the left.

Find the “Text-to-Speech Notifications” on the page, choose either “For current selected channel” or “For all channels”. The option “For currently selected channel” will restrict the feature to the currently open channel while choosing “For all channels” will allow you to hear every text to speech message in every channel and server.

Now in the sidebar, click “Text & Images”.

Scroll down to “Allow playback & usage of the /tts command” and toggle on the switch next to it.

Finally, Discord Text-to-speech is enabled now.

It is a simple process to hear your message aloud when the TTS feature has been enabled once.

Open Discord and send a voice message in any channel you want.

Type “/tts” followed by a space, and then type your message.

Send the message.

The slash command will not appear anymore in your message, but all the users will hear your message aloud in the channel you have sent a message by a voice bot.

Text to speech discord bot was initially designed for gamers, but later on, it is used for everybody who belongs to different fields. Now people who use text to speech discord know how fun and useful it is, but at the same time, you can face some issues, that could be an accessibility issue or language barrier. Discord has multiple text and voice channels, and you can turn on the voice capabilities whenever you want by using text to speech feature. Let’s see how can we enable it and ensure that it is working fine.

Step 1: Go to Discord’s settings

Open up your Discord app. You will see a gear icon at the bottom of the discord window just next to the headset icon – it is a discord setting tool. Click on the icon to open a sidebar on the left, it has all the Discord settings.

Step 2: Search the text-to-speech feature

There are several sections in the setting menu find the section named “App settings” and go to the option Text and images select it. this is a section from where you can manage the look of your chats for any specific channel. Scroll down and find the option text-to-speech.

Step 3: Enable the TTS function

Once you find the option Text to speech, which says Allow usage and playback of /tts command, enable that toggle button. Now you can use the discord text to speech feature whenever you want.

Discord provides the easiest TTS process. Go to any channel of your choice and type “/tts” followed by a space at the starting of your message and hit the enter key. Once you clicked the enter key you will see a message without the /tts command, however, the command is activated and everybody in the channel can hear your message out loud.

Step 4: Enable channel notifications as necessary

Notification is one of the most important things. Go to the app settings section in setting and find the option notifications. Select it, and you can see a different kind of alerts, scroll down till you find the option TTS notifications and enables it

Here you will have three options that you can choose from:

For all channels: By turning on this option, everyone in all the channels across the entire server you are part of can hears your message aloud. People do not have to use the command “/tts”, your message will automatically hear aloud by the voice bot. this is a very basic setting, but it is quite useful for people who cannot see.

For the currently selected channel: This option will let you have control over the channels. The users in the channel you are currently using will be able to hear the message aloud,

Regardless of if they use the /tts command or not. This will be very handy and useful if you are busy working on other things on your computer and still do not want to miss the channel conversation; this will help you in reading out aloud while you can focus on different things as well.

Never: Text will not convert into speech, not even by using the “//tts” command. Everything will remain silent. It is good to use when you want to stop spammers.

You do not have to choose any of these options. It is important for two reasons: First, you do not only want to hear your message only but all messages on the channel. Second, it is good to remember that people can switch off TTS capabilities for Discord if they want.

How to Use Text to Speech Discord on Mac

Let’s see How to Enable discord Text to Speech on Discord on Mac.

There are two ways you can turn on the TTS feature. You can enable the feature for all of your channels or only for a current channel you are using

Open the Discord app on your Mac

At the bottom-left of the screen there is a gear icon, click that icon.

Click Notifications on the left.

Scroll down to Text-to-Speech Notifications.

Select For all channels or for the currently selected channel to allow users to hear your message as per your preference. (select Never option, To turn the feature off)

By configuring these settings, you will be able to hear your messages and audio messages from all the channels you are part of or only current channels you are opened, depending on the option you have selected.

click Text & Images

Toggle on the switch next to Allow playback & usage of the /tts command.

You can use this feature right away as you enabled the feature by typing the a /tts command at the start of your text. Do not forget to enter the space between the command and your message.

Other members of the channel won’t be able to hear the audio if their TTS feature is turned off, however they can see the text.

Open Discord and go to the channel where you want to send a message.

Type: /tts at the start of your message to read it aloud

Hit the enter key. The message will appear without the slash command. A text to speech bot will read your message aloud, along with “Username said.

Use the /tts slash command whenever you want to send an audio message.

How to Turn off/Disable/Mute Text to Speech Discord

Sometimes it gets frustrating to hear the messages aloud when you are not interested in the conversation or may have other tasks on which you have to concentrate. So, maybe at some point you just want to mute all text-to-speech messages, you can do so from the Discord user settings menu.

Method one: notification settings & server-wide mute

Go to the User Settings

Go to the Notifications section

Find the option Text-to-Speech

Never: the option “never” will not convert the text into speech no matter how hard your friends try. You will not be able to hear the tones of the Text to Speech bot anywhere.

Method two: read your sentences!

Go to the User Settings

Find the Text & Images

Find the Text-to-Speech

This option is used to enable or disable the /tts command. If you have turned off this option then the Text to Speech bot will not read text aloud, even after using the /tts command.

Well, that is all with Discord text to speech, we wish and hope that these tips will help you when you use discord.

15 Best Labelling Images And Annotation Tools in 2021

15 Best Labelling Images And Annotation Tools in 2021

Muhammad Imran

Author

January 21, 2021

in this blog, we have reviewed the best labelling images and annotation tools in 2021. Find out the key differences between these twos.

labelling images

Image Labeling is a way to identify all the entities that are connected to, and present within an image. The images can have multiple entities present within it, ranging from people, things, foods, colors and even activities, which will all be recognized in this process. This way, the users know what their image is portraying, and the ones who are viewing the image also find out what is being displayed in front of them. For this purpose, the best machine learning as a service and image processing service is offered by Folio3 and is highly recommended by many.

Image Labeling can be used through APIs that are both, cloud-based and on the device itself, making it easier to use, and is friendly with both the main software systems, iOS and Android. Image Labeling also comes in handy in many different ways, for example, the organization or person administering the image labeling can gage insights into what the image is portraying, and how it is doing so. This information leads them to find out how the images can be used to their advantage, and then they can plan and perform further tasks, like content moderations, or automatic metadata generation, etc.

What is Image Annotation?

Image Annotations are currently high in demand due to the rapid growth and widespread use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). The developments in these areas have led to more and more images now being annotated, and are being used not only for image attractions but also for future predictions on different scenarios. The computer vision that the AI and ML models have, can visualize different objects through videos and pictures, which is why it is best if they are annotated using the special technique, and if conducted on a large scale, it can be used as data for further training.

One major use of annotated images is to train different AI and ML algorithms through them, which would, in turn, help the machines in learning and storing the different patterns to its virtual memory, and then relate and utilize that memorized image to identify the different real-life situations later and analyze the similarity of that data. For this reason, most of the work conducted is through online image annotation and tools.

Different types of Image Annotations are used today, namely:

  • Bounding Box
  • Polygon Annotation
  • 3D Cuboid
  • Semantic Segmentation
  • Land-marking

The annotated images, once completed, are then fed to the trained or training models and algorithms to ensure its accuracy, and whether the model has undergone correct and complete training, which is checked by the machine learning engineers themselves. Though, one can never be sure how much data is required for training the algorithms.

Is there any difference between image annotation and labelling images?

Labelling Images and Image Annotation are generally processes that are conducted together, because an image needs to be classified, put labels onto and then used further for annotation and then prediction purposes. Though, both terms are different, and some very obvious differences are highlighted below:

Image Annotation

Labelling Images

  • It is more complex than labelling and classifying images.
  • It is easier to be conducted than image annotation.
  • It needs a larger scale to work on most efficiently.
  • It is effective in smaller scales as well, unlike image annotation.
  • It is used for a specific purpose of machine learning, and for a specific audience or algorithm.
  • It is a widespread process that is usually conducted without any specific purpose, and for the general audience.
  • Requires much more time and expertise than labelling images.
  • It is an easy process, so can be conducted fast and with limited expertise.
  • It is a much harder process, and needs many classified or labelled images to work with in order to be successful in making AI systems work.
  • It has a purpose of mapping out and giving labels to images, dividing them into classes so that robots can be controlled, as well as other systems.
  • It needs a higher level of intelligence and a rich vocabulary.
  • It can be conducted with regular, easy vocabulary without higher intelligence.
  • It adds captions and meta data into digital images.
  • It labels or classifies the images by identifying the objects present in them.

Key Criteria for Reviewing Labelling Images / Image Annotation Tool

The criteria for Labelling Images and Image Annotation Tools differ only a little, with some key points in favour of both.

Key Criteria used for reviewing Labelling Images tools

Pricing

Since Labelling Images tools are available on the device and as a cloud-based entity too, a person has to decide which one suits their needs the most. In the case of pricing, it is found that on device it is free of charges, though, the cloud-based system is free for only the first few uses, if you want to use it again, there will be a minimum fee.

Label Coverage

The next important thing is to see how many labels are present for you to use. For example, for on-device users, there are around 400 or more labels present, which are of common things and most commonly used, but for cloud users, there are more than 10,000 labels belonging to multiple different categories.

Specific entity IDs

Another thing that is a criterion and is available to cloud and on-device users is the use of knowledge graph and entity IDs, which is a different ID for each object in the labels and has support available to help you with the process.

Key Criteria used for reviewing Image Annotation tools

Price

Again, price is a very important factor for users to determine which tools gives the most value for money and is highly useful.

Variety

The variety of features that a tool offers is what attracts users. This refers to the different kinds of functions, tools or formats that different tools provide, and the one with the higher number of services definitely gets an upper hand.

Management and Usage

For tools to attract the right users, they need to have management expertise if different kinds of projects, so that maximum people find them useful. Moreover, the ease of use of the tools also counts, because no one has the time to deal with complex tools as image annotation itself is a complex process, so the tools should be as easy to use as possible.

5 Best Labelling Images Tools in 2021

LabelIMG

This is an open-source and free of cost image labelling tool, which is highly easy to install in Windows operating systems as it has built-in binaries for it already, which is a USP for it. The good thing about this is that it is an offline tool, making it simpler and faster to label images and retrieve the saved ones. Otherwise, it is a very simple tool and has nothing advanced in it. Additionally, it only supports bounding boxes and no other kind of labelling method.

Labelbox

This is a web-based platform that is continuing to grow and improve its functionalities and has 2 pricing packages to offer its users: free of cost (but is limited to 5000 images) and an enterprise pricing plan that is charged. It offers lines, boxes, polygons and all sorts of labelling techniques, along with great project management methods too, like monitoring performance, quality control, etc. Though its file saving option is complicated and files can overlap each other, causing confusion in later stages.

RectLabel

This is another tool for image labelling, though, like LabelIMG was more comfortable with Windows, RectLabel is made for the macOS and is easy to use for all macOS users. It is free of cost and provides great ways to label images using bounding boxes and polygons.

ImageTagger

Another image labelling tool is ImageTagger, and as the name suggests, it is extremely easy to tag pictures with labels through it. It is free of cost, as it is an open-source platform, and provides a variety of labelling techniques. In addition, it also provides a unique method of image labelling collaboratively on a larger scale, if needed.

LabelMe

It is one of the classic image labelling tools in the industry, which was built by MIT on an open-source format. Its best labelling technique is using the polygonal way of labelling, though, its level of precision has proved to be extremely low and uneven.

10 Best Image Annotation Tools in 2021

VGG Image Annotator

Being an open-source platform, it is free of cost, and like LabelIMG, can perform simple tasks without project management very easily. It is the only platform amongst many that support the use of circles and ellipses along with other polygons, dots and lines in annotating images. It does not support advanced management, but its interface is highly efficient and precise.

Supervise.ly

This web-based platform is an advanced annotation tool, which also has a library containing deep learning models that you can immediately train and test. Though it is a community and free tool, it does have an enterprise plan that charges. With a variety of tools, you can also use it to draw holes in polygons, and it lets you order you figures in a layered format, which are highly valuable features. It provides you with image format options like Cityscapes and COCO, as well as the possibility of a direct transformation to the platform. Teams, datasets, workspaces, it provides project management for all these, but it lacks time statistics and quality control mechanisms.

BeaverDam

This tool is a little different because it caters to video annotations specifically, and is popularly used by engineers all over the world. It works as a Python Django server locally and has easy integration skills with mturk. It has a lot of features and you can achieve a lot from its annotations, but the only drawback is that you need to have some prior knowledge or expertise of it, and have to learn how to use the tool in the most efficient way.

Diffgram

Diffgram enables teams to process large quantities of datasets, such as images, videos, etc. in one go. You can easily create workflows and check progress through it, along with it automatically assigning tasks and saving up on time. It also creates versions that are immediately web-ready, so that annotators can easily access it, and it is also compatible with cloud computing. Diffgram has different pricing levels, where Explorer is free of cost, Teams have a cost per user charge and Enterprise charges according to the business needs.

Prodigy

Prodigy is a highly efficient and scriptable data annotation tool, which is very easy to use and can train an AI model in only a few hours. It has a faster data collection, a more independent approach, and is known to have a higher level of successful projects than other tools. It gives you a frequent tracking and improving feature for making better quality material for your models, and its return on investment has been quite high in recent years. It is an open-source platform and has both, a cloud version and an on-device version, and both are free of cost.

Computer Vision Annotation Tool (CVAT)

The computer vision annotation tool (CVAT) is developed by Intel. The software reiterates the embodiment of OpenCV, which was released 2 decades ago by the tech giant. As can be expected by software from Intel, CVAT comes with powerful and state-of-the-art annotation tools. And while getting familiar with all the features and functionalities of the software may take some time, it’s worth the efforts to get used to the tons of features offered by the platform for annotation. As a web-app, the software is easy to install and scale and offers plenty of automation instruments including; TensorFlow, Object Detection API, automatic annotation, and others. The only downside to the tool is the complicated UI, which may need several days to master.

Visual Object Tagging Tools (VoTT)

Visual Object Tagging Tools (VoTT) is yet another powerful image annotation tool. Developed by Microsoft, the software brings in an interactive and intuitive interface, making it easier for users to master the various functionalities and features offered by the tool. Make-Sense is a new entry in the image annotation world, which was released one year back. Like VoTT, Make-Sense comes with an incredibly user-friendly UX, making it easier for users to get started immediately. If you are an absolute beginner looking for a head-start to the image annotation field, Make-Sense is the right tool. All you need to do is to visit the website and drag & drop the images you want to annotate and you are good to go. What’s really cool is that the tool doesn’t store any images, so you can be sure of the privacy of the data.

Anno-Mage

Anno-Mage is another relatively new annotation tool that brings in a powerful object-detection model called “RetinaNet”. The tool is developed to offer users easy access to all the tools with an intuitive interface. The “RetinaNet” model used by the tool offers up to 80 object classes to users, minimizing the human efforts required to annotate the images.

FAQs

Today, with decades of research and refinement, computer vision technology has greatly matured and very much a reality.

But what exactly computer vision technology is all about?

what is a computer vision technology

At the turn of the 20th century, computer vision seemed little more than a crazy unrealistic dream of scientists and scholars. The Summer Vision Project was perhaps the first computer vision project that was assigned to undergrads back in 1960. The key vision then was to utilize the computing power (whatever existed then) to develop a computer program (algorithm) capable of understanding, analyzing, interpreting, and responding to stimuli from the surrounding.

Since then there have been growing efforts to develop more robust and intelligent computer vision algorithms that are able to understand, interpret, and interact with the surrounding. The fast-track technological advancement in the 1990s that significantly reduced the prices and increased availability of high-powered supercomputers further increased the development of computer vision technology as engineers rushed to come up with more complex and robust mathematical models.

Today, with decades of research and refinement, computer vision technology has greatly matured and very much a reality.

What Is Computer Vision Technology For SMEs and Enterprises?

To put it simply, computer vision is a subfield of Artificial Intelligence that is meant to take understand the visual components (imagery or video) for identification, analysis, processing, and extraction of information. It’s the technology that fuels the limitless application of image processing software, image segmentation overcoming the inherent limitation of the human eye to process the information from visual components.

Today, computer vision technology is able to train models for effective and efficient analysis of the visual components (imagery and videos) to yield discreet information which otherwise isn’t possible for humans to do it on their own.

Computer vision has remained an area of study as a machine learning concept for quite some time. As far back as the 1950s, the raw concepts of computer vision were used to analyze environmental objects and systems. Although still in its infancy then, the core concept for the technology has remained consistent – devising useful information from the visual components using intelligent machine learning models that are able to identify, analyze and process information from visual components. However, the technological restrictions of that time-restricted the scope and application of computer vision technology back until the 1990s, when finally supercomputers were started to mass produce and be available for scientists to continue their research for the development of robust computer vision technology.

Today, the technology has matured greatly with advanced algorithms being developed for practical utilization of the technology in daily lives, which have proved to be of great worth for personal and commercial use. Today, various companies are developing comprehensive and advance computer vision technology applications with cross-industry utility.

Read our detailed guide on how does computer vision works?

Applications of Computer Vision Technology

Computer vision technology is making its way into all aspects of commercial and personal lives. Today, nearly all industry sectors private and public included are utilizing the power of computer vision technology to track, process, and interpret the world around them. Below we have come up with some of the top applications of computer vision technology;

Improved Online Merchandising

For the past two decades, online merchandising has solely relied on tags to understand customers’ search queries. For instance, to define a bag, an online merchandiser attach various tags with the products like “bag”, “Polyester”, “Black”, “cotton” or other tags that enable to refine the search results for the users.

The system has been working fine for online merchandising for decades, even though this wasn’t the most efficient or effective system. Nonetheless, with the rapid adoption of computer vision technology, this is soon going to change, making it must easier for customers to find the precise merchandise they are looking for.

The technology will essentially eliminate the reliance on tags for merchandise search, rather it will bring into place comparison for actual physical characteristics of products in the image. In simple terms, in the future, customers no longer would have to rely on tags to find out the best product, rather they will be able to perform image similarity to find the exact product (size, shape, color, and other physical characteristics) they are looking for.

Redefining the retail experience

Perhaps the most fascinating and exciting application of computer vision technology is its ability to redefine the retail experience for customers. Amazon Go is a prime example of the capacity and capability of computer vision technology for users.

If you already aren’t aware of the Amazon Go stores and image analytics, there are physical stores with no checkout lines. Customers can visit the stores with no cashiers. You can just pick up whatever you want and leave the store. The store is fitted with a camera system all across, which is able to track and identify the movements of shoppers. The smart cart carried by customers also comes with scanners, which instantly detect any items that are placed or removed from the cart. The powerful computer vision algorithms running the cameras automatically detect and make transactions for the items from customers’ online account, thereby, saving them the hassle of going through the cashier lines.

Mini Drones for Livestock Management

The drones have come a long way into applicability in the agriculture industry. While precision agriculture is one of the most effective applications of drones in the agriculture industry, this isn’t the only purpose served.

Today, mini drones with powerful AI-backed technology are enabling ranchers to better manage their animals. Given that livestock farming is a highly laborious work, mini drones can significantly help improve the livestock farm management across the fields, pastures, hills, and moorlands.

Traditional livestock management practices rely on human observations and tracking of livestock across the vast swaths of terrain, which is simply a hectic, laborious, and redundant task. Today, mini drones with various types of imaging equipment and AI-technology is enabling ranchers to keep close track of their cattle, across all types of landscape. The drones may be used to identify individual animals in the herd using coloured collars, tags, or other identification symbols.

By equipping mini drones with camera (specifically thermal cameras) it is also possible for ranchers to keep up with the livestock tracking even under the tree canopy, by looking at heat signatures of the livestock. Mini drones with camera are quite capable of tracking and herding the entire herd.

Some of the possible uses of mini drones with camera for livestock management includes;

Pasture utilization

Assessing livestock behaviour

Planning grazing distribution

Livestock monitoring

Others

Some of the livestock management functions which may be performed by specific mini-drones include;

Mini drones with downward facing cameras may be used to track the motion and orientation of herd, as well as, track individual animals.

Mini drones with thermal imaging camera can be used to track herd location under the tree canopy or at night.

GPS sensors equipped mini-drones may be used to track the precise location of animals fitted with GPS collars.

Mini Drones for Solar Panel Inspection

The ability to cover vast swathes of lands for surveillance purposes and capture high-resolution bird eye view imagery is certainly one of the key features of mini-drones. Just like the increasing use of mini drones with camera for livestock management, these highly precise flying robots are also extensively used to manage solar farms and inspection.

Businesses in the energy sectors across the world are exploiting cutting-edge technologies with mini-drones to improve their efficiency for monitoring solar energy farms, as a means to continue to supply reliable and affordable energy to customers.

Challenges of Solar Farm Inspections

The energy needs are soaring across the world, as energy companies struggle to keep up with the demand. With an increased focus on green and renewable energy generation, businesses are investing in the development of massive solar farms spread across thousands of hectares; typically in arid areas. Typically a solar farm spread across 2500+ acres would be required to generate energy for 100,000 households, which gives a clear idea about the giantess of the scale we are talking about.

Traditionally, solar farms are to be managed manually by human inspectors carrying thermal imagers to identify broken or defective cells amongst thousands of solar panels.
