Many factors can influence the demands in the workforce. Most notably, the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for tech advances have played a huge role in the demand for some careers. Today, we will explore some of the booming careers in the next decade.  

Wind Turbine Service Technicians

The green energy industry has become more relevant over the last decade, and directly affecting the demand for wind turbine service technicians, also known as windtechs. Although they have an average salary of $56,230 per year, this has become the most in-demand career in the Bureau of Labor Statistics data. The job outlook for windtechs is expected to grow up to 68 percent from 2020 to 2030.

These technicians install and provide support to the wind turbines. They usually work from a central office and are on-site only when necessary. This role doesn’t require a college degree.

Information Security Analysts

Information security analysts measure computer systems’ safety levels to prevent malicious entries. They can work individually, in an organization, or at a governmental office. Their role is to design and implement cybersecurity measures and policies to protect computer networks.

The demand for information security analysts is as high as 33 percent, and it’s expected to increase as the number of cyberattacks rise in the coming years. 

Data Scientist

Data scientists are researchers who filter data to find actionable insights. Then, they analyze their discoveries to identify trends and patterns in raw data. Their role is crucial in business decision-making, so it is no surprise to see that their demand will increase up to 22 percent from 2020 to 2030.

Software Developers

Software developers are computer science professionals who build web, desktop, and mobile applications for different purposes. They develop these applications with multiple programming languages such as CSS, C++, and HTML. 

The demand for software developers is also very high, considering their important role in today’s economy. Most industries rely on software for innumerous reasons, including inventory, sales, and customer service. That’s why the demand for software developers is expected to rise up to 22 percent, according to BLS.

Logisticians

Logisticians are the coordinators of a product’s life cycle, from acquiring to shipment and delivery. They optimize processes to make them more efficient, safe, and cost-effective. Their final purpose is to enhance the product’s delivery time and reduce costs. 

Logisticians not only enjoy a high salary of $76,270, but they also have a huge demand that is expected to grow up to 30 percent, according to BLS.

Respiratory Therapists

Respiratory therapists provide the diagnosis, treatment, and prescription for respiratory conditions. They focus on the lungs’ well functioning and providing oxygen when needed. They often work with patients with underdeveloped lungs at birth, heart attacks, COVID-19, or respiratory trauma. Respiratory therapists also assist patients with nebulizers and breathing tubes. 

The demand for respiratory therapists has drastically spiked due to COVID-19. Many patients with the disease require help to receive oxygen and improve their lungs’ conditions.

Epidemiologists

In history, pandemics haven’t happened that often. Many people may think that the role of an epidemiologist was underrated before COVID-19. However, the reality is that their duty is to prevent pandemics from happening. Many sanitary crises have been prevented with epidemiologists’ help.

Epidemiologists study disease trends in the population, causes of diseases, and spread to prevent them from becoming an outbreak. These professionals use statistics to detect patterns in the population. According to BLS, the demand for epidemiologists is expected to rise up to 30 percent from 2020 to 2030.
