Image quality assessment from error visibility to structural similarity?
Error Visibility is a universally accepted approach and it is essentially accomplished by simulating the functional properties of early stages of the Human Visual System, as characterized by both psychophysical and physiological elements. However, there are several limitations to this approach including quality definition, suprathreshold problem, natural image complexity, decorrelation problem, and the cognitive interaction problem. The structural similarity approach addresses all these limitations.
What is Psnr and SSIM?
SSIM is an abbreviation for structural similarity index and PSNR is an abbreviation for peak signal-to-noise ratio. Both these are image similarity tests and determine exactly how much quality is lost due to encoding.
